The term player or banker doesn’t necessarily mean the customer or the house, but the options the customers have to bet on. These options are quite limited, there are only three: bets can be place on the player or on the banker, or in rarer cases on a tie. If the player’s hand wins than those will win who placed their bets on the players. If the banker wins than those will win who placed their money on the banker. If there is a tie then those who bet on the player or banker will receive their money back.

The game of baccarat is often mistaken with blackjack, due to some similarities in the game, which are that in both games the players put their bets on an outcome of card values, but calculating the values of the hands are very different. In blackjack a player has the opportunity to choose whether he wants additional cards or not, and the sum of the cards’ values will determine the outcome. In baccarat the dealer will deal two hands, and in each hand there will be two cards. Then the dealer will turn the cards face up, calculate and call out the values. The calculation is quite unusual for the public at large because people are used to play blackjack. The cards all have a certain value. The tens, and face cards (Ace, King, Queen and Jack) are all worth 0, and all other cards are worth their face numbers. The calculation is the following: they add the values of the individual cards, but only the last digit counts. This means that in baccarat the values can go only from 0 to 9 inclusive. The hand with the higher number wins.

There are some other baccarat rules too. If the player has a total value from 0 to 5, the player will be dealt an additional card. On the other hand if the player has a total value of 6 or more, the player must stand, and no more cards are drawn. If the banker has a total value of 7 or more, than he must stand and no further cards are drawn. If the banker has a total value of 0, 1 or 2 than an additional card is drawn. In the other cases of total values the player determines whether the banker gets cards or not. If the player draws a card than the banker will draw to, if the player won’t than the banker will stand.

Since these are the only options the player has, it is quite clear that this game is based solely on luck, and there is absolutely no skill required. Therefore it is a perfect game for relaxing, or to test luck, who knows when will be luck on our side? In the same time it isn’t a game where you have to think a lot, so it is played pretty quickly. As you can imagine the game of baccarat flows according to strict rules, and there is absolutely no decision required, except for what to bet on.
